Who’s Ready For Some Good News?!?

For those people who suffer from low back pain, chronic or acute, there’s good news!  According to a recent study by Kaiser Permanente Washington Health Research Institute (published July 7, 2020), acupuncture has been proven to be effective in treating back pain.
It was found to relieve symptoms and have patients return to their normal levels of activity as quickly as traditional treatments, without the side effects.

Low back pain is the second most common complaint heard by primary care physicians. In fact, 85% of people experience low back pain at some point in their life.  Most episodes of lumbar pain occur between the lumbar vertebrae L1-L5 which supports most of the weight of the upper body. Whether back pain is caused by sprains, strains, postural positioning or structural abnormality, the effects can be troubling.

Back pain is also one of the biggest causes of work absences.  Approximately 8.2% of Americans have severe, chronic low back pain.  Of those, roughly three quarters have problems with mobility, self-care, work participation and socializing.  Many Americans seek alternatives to traditional medication for pain relief which can have adverse effects.

Patients seeking acupuncture to relieve lower back pain can expect to receive treatments one to times a week. Depending on the severity and length of the condition, patients can see their pain resolved in six to eight weeks.
